September 7 -- MEETING.   Stauffer Miller will give a presentation on “The Birds of Cape Cod”. If you would like to join Stauffer and Ellie for dinner before the meeting, call Marcia Balestri (301-473-5098).

September 9 -- HART-MILLER ISLAND.   Gene Scarpula will lead us on a 7-8 mile trek around Hart-Miller Island to look for migrating shorebirds. Be sure to bring lunch, plenty of water, hat, sunscreen, and bug spray. Mike Welch is coordinating the trip and space is limited. To make reservations, contact Mike (301-874-5828).

September 9 -- MOS QUARTERLY MEETING.   Helen Horrocks to attend.

September 16 -- FREDERICK COUNTY FALL COUNT.   Mike Welch will coordinate our eighth countywide fall census. Call Mike (301-874-5828) to be placed with a team or be assigned a territory. Tally Rally at the Welch’s.

September 23 -- GAMBRILL STATE PARK.   Barbara Gearhart will lead us on a quest for fall migrants in Gambrill State Park. Walking may be uphill and vigorous depending on where the warblers are. Meet at 8:00AM at Gambrill Park. Please call Barbara (301-473-9889) if you are coming.

September 30 -- BLUE MASH.   Helen Horrocks will lead us on a trip to Blue Mash, an interesting walk at a very birdy site in Montgomery County. If weather has been wet, waterproof boots might be a good idea. Meet at the Rte. 75 Park and Ride, just south of I-70 at 7:30AM. Please plan to carpool, parking is very limited.

October 5 -- MEETING.   In conjunction with a display of the late Gary Smyle’s photographs at the Library, we will be featuring Wil Hershberger speaking on the “50 Common Birds of Frederick County.” Kathy Brown is coordinating the display.

October 14 -- LILYPONS   with Barbara Gearhart. Good for beginners. Possible American Bittern, Nelson Sharp-tailed Sparrow, and other fall migrants. Meet at Lilypons bridge at 7:30AM. Please call Barbara (301-473-9889) to let her know you are coming.

October 20 -- POPLAR ISLAND TRIP .   We need at least 8 people for this trip boat trip to the island. Call Kathy Calvert (301-698-1298) for information and to make your reservations. We may have to limit the number of people, so make your reservations as soon as possible.

October 28 -- FALL AT AUDREY CARROLL.   Dave Smith will lead a trip to search for those pesky little brown jobs (sparrows) and other migrants! Meet at the Rte. 75 Park and Ride, just south of I-70 at 7:30AM. Call Dave Smith (410-549-7082) for information.

November 2 -- MEETING.   George Jett will present “A Snapshot of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, TX -- Going Digital.” George switched to digital photography and took his new toy to one of North America’s best birding areas during peak migration. Come share this photographic experience at the most popular birding locations in the Rio Grande Valley.

November 4-5 -- TOWN HILL OVERNIGHT.   We will stay at a local B&B on Saturday and visit the famous (in Maryland, anyway) Hawk Watch. This time of year is good for Northern Goshawks and Golden Eagles. For information and reservations, contact David Smith (410-549-7082).

November 18 -- POINT LOOKOUT AND ENVIRONS   for Brown-headed Nuthatch, Red-headed Woodpeckers, waterfowl and late migrants. Bring your lunch and meet at Urbana Park and Ride South at 6:00AM. Call Marcia Balestri (301-473-5098) for further information.

December 2 -- MOS Quarterly Meeting.   Mike Welch and Helen Horrocks to attend.

December 7 -- CHRISTMAS DINNER AND MEETING.   Kevin Loughlin will regale us with “The Color of Birds: In Celebration of a Passion.” Place and time to be determined. Please make reservations with and send money to Treasurer Nancy Parker before 11/27/06.

December 17 -- CATOCTIN CHRISTMAS COUNT #58.   Call Mike Welch (301-874-5828) to participate.

January 4 -- MEETING.   Beth Zang will give a presentation on “A Holistic Approach to Bird Conservation in Peru.” Beth will talk about her amazing journey to Peru, and how our club's donations are helping bird conservation efforts.

January 6 -- AUDREY CARROLL MID-WINTER COUNT.   Meet at the Sanctuary at 6:30AM. Dress warmly with waterproof boots. Call David Smith (410-549-7082) for further information.

January 13 -- CARROLL COUNTY MID-WINTER COUNT.   Call Bill Ellis (410-781-7113) to participate.

February 1 -- MEETING.   A speaker from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will be giving a presentation on “Bay-Friendly Landscaping.”

February 3 -- HOTLINE TRIP.   Mike Welch will lead us around MD to look for winter rarities reported on the hotline. Emphasis will be on Frederick County birds, but we may wander farther depending on what’s out there. Meet at Baker Park at 8:30AM. Call Mike (301-874-5828) for information.

February 17-19 -- PRESIDENT’S WEEKEND TRIP   to the Eastern Shore. Meet at Urbana Park and Ride at 6:00AM. Call Mike Welch (301-874-5828) to reserve a spot.

March 1 -- MEETING.   Kathy Marmet from Fox Haven will give a presentation on “Fox Haven Community Efforts Toward Ecologically Responsible Living.” Come learn about the wonderful initiatives at this ecological learning center.

March 3 -- TIMBERDOODLES.   at Audrey Carroll. Doug Parker will lead us on a search for American Woodcocks. Meet at the Rte. 75 Park and Ride just south of I-70 at 5:30PM. Bring a flashlight. For information call Doug (301-663-1909).

March 18 -- HUGHS HOLLOW.   A trip to one of Jim Green’s favorite birding haunts. Meet at Hughes Hollow. All are welcome! The plan is to bird Hughes Hollow & surrounding areas for a half-day. April 2 -- HUNTLEY MEADOWS.   Kathy Calvert will lead us on a trip down to a great birding spot in our southern neighbor’s territory to look for rails and other marsh birds. Meet Urbana Park & Ride @ 6:30 AM. Pack a lunch.

April 5 -- MEETING.   Mike Bowen and Linda Friedland will give a shortened version of the acclaimed “Warbler Workshop” presented at last year’s MOS Annual Conference at Rocky Gap. Come see this popular and informative presentation just in time for migration.

April 14 -- FOX HAVEN.   Beth Zang will take us to Fox Haven to look for late lingerers, sparrows, and early migrants. Meet at Jefferson Park and Ride on Rte. 340 and Lander Road at 8:00AM. Call Beth (301-371-7936) for information.

April 21 -- EARTHDAY BIG DAY.   Join us for our fourth annual “fun”draising event at Lilypons to raise money for MOS projects. Contact Chuck Finley for further information and to sign up.

April 28 -- AUDUBON NATIVE PLANT SALE AT AUDREY CARROLL.   Starts at 9:00AM.

April 29 -- C & O CANAL WALK.   We will go from Point of Rocks to Landers for migrating warblers. Be sure to do your neck exercises beforehand. Meet Baker Park at 6:30 AM. Call Kathy Calvert (301-698-1298) for further information.

May 3 -- MEETING.   Mary Wood, our scholarship winner from Kemptown Elementary School, will give us a presentation on her activities at the Maine Audubon Workshop last summer.

June 8 -- CHAPTER PLANNING MEETING.   Everyone please come to our 2007-2008 planning meeting and volunteer to give a program or lead a field trip. We need new ideas and suggestions. Meet at 7:00PM at Mike Welch’s house. Call Mike (301-874-5828) for information and directions.

July 27-29 -- MOS ANNUAL CONFERENCE.   61STAnnual Conference of the Maryland Ornithological Society will be held in Salisbury, MD.

August Weekend -- PELAGIC AND DELAWARE COASTAL REFUGES.   Mike Welch will take us to Lewes for a pelagic trip and then up the Delaware Coast to watch shorebirds and other early fall migrants. Contact Mike (301-874-5828) for more information. Weekend to be determined.
