September 6 -- MEETING.   For our first meeting of the season, we will hear from Kevin Heffernan and Karen Darcy about "Birding South Florida and the Dry Tortugas."

September 7 -- "FIRST-FRIDAY" MORNING TRIP.   Meet at 8:00 AM at Culler Lake in Baker Park to join this half-day trip.   Leader and destination to be announced.

September 22 -- BLUE MASH.  Birding trails take us through meadows and forest, past ponds with waterfowl and shorebirds.   Leader: Bob Schaefer, 301-831-5660.

September 28 -- CAPE MAY WEEKEND.   Cape May can't be beat for fall migration. We will spend a fabulous weekend at this birding mecca.   Leader: Kathy Brown (301-865-1369).

October 4 -- MEETING.   Dave Brinker will tell us about "Project Owlnet."   Learn about the habits of these elusive birds.

October 5 -- "FIRST-FRIDAY" MORNING TRIP.   Meet at 8:00 AM at Culler Lake in Baker Park to join this half-day trip.   Leader and destination to be announced.

October 6 -- LILYPONS.   Morning trip. This will be a joint Frederick-Montgomery bird club trip to our popular local birding hot-spot. nbsp; We'll look for American Bittern, Lincoln's and Nelson's Sparrows and other fall migrants.   Leader: Marcia Balestri (301-473-5098).

October 13 -- FALL AT FRED ARCHIBALD.   Morning trip.   Fall sparrows, migrants, and any number of surprises can occur at this lovely sanctuary.   Leader: Bob Schaefer (301-831-5660).

October 20 or 27 -- HAWK WATCH at a site to be determined.   There are several good ridges for the hawk migration, we will choose one that seems promising based on the weather.   Leader: Tom Humphrey (301-696-8540).

November 1 -- MEETING.   Members' Night.   This will feature a variety of short presentations of photos, slides, and/or videos from our members.   Who knows where it may take us! ...   Please let Bob Schaefer know in advance if you want to be on the agenda (301-831-5660).

November 2 -- "FIRST-FRIDAY" MORNING TRIP.   Meet at 8:00 AM at Culler Lake in Baker Park to join this half-day trip.   Leader and destination to be announced.

November 9 -- SAW-WHET OWLS BANDING.   Late night trip.   Reservations are required and the number of participants is limited on this special night-time trip to the Saw-Whet Owl banding station at Lamb's Knoll.   Contact Tom Humphrey for information and reservations (301-696-8540).

November 17 -- KENT ISLAND AND TERRAPIN PARK.   Full day trip.   We'll look for early winter waterfowl and other birds.   Leader: Lois Kauffman (301-845-6690).

December 6 -- CHRISTMAS DINNER AND MEETING.   For our annual dinner, our speaker will be Peter Kaestner, one of the world's leading birders.   Dinner will be at the Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont at 6:00 P.M. at a cost of $15.50 per person. Please make reservations with and send money to Treasurer Nancy Parker before 11/23/2012.

December 15 -- CATOCTIN CHRISTMAS COUNT #63.   Birders of all ages and levels of experience needed!   Compiler: Mike Welch (301-685-3561).

December 30 -- SUGARLOAF CHRISTMAS COUNT.   All are welcome!   Compiler: Helen Horrocks (301-831-6315).

January 3 -- MEETING.   Mike's Bird Quiz!   Your bird identification skills will be challenged as Mike Welch presents a series of photos.

January 4 -- "FIRST-FRIDAY" MORNING TRIP.   Meet at 8:00 AM at Culler Lake in Baker Park to join this half-day trip.   Leader and destination to be announced.

January 6 -- AUDREY CARROLL MID-WINTER COUNT.   Meet at the Sanctuary at 6:30 AM, and be prepared to visit all parts of the sanctuary's 129-acres.   You may want your waterproof boots.   Compiler: David Smith (410-549-7082).

January 13 -- FRED ARCHIBALD MID-WINTER COUNT.   Meet at the Sanctuary at 6:30 AM, and be ready to cover 140 acres.   Don't forget waterproof boots.   Compiler: Bob Schaefer (301-831-5660, Pres@FrederickBirdClub.org).

January 19 -- CAMBRIDGE/BLACKWATER.   Full-day search for wintering waterfowl. Leader: Lois Kauffman (301-845-6690).

February 3 -- FREDERICK COUNTY MID-WINTER COUNT.   This is the last, but not the least, of our winter counts!   The reward afterwards is the enjoyable tally-rally at David and Carol's house.   Compiler: David Smith (410-549-7082).

February 7 -- MEETING.   Greg Kearns will tell us about "Brazil's Pantanal," a wildlife paradise.

February 8 -- "FIRST-FRIDAY" MORNING TRIP.   Meet at 8:00 AM at Culler Lake in Baker Park to join this half-day trip.   Leader and destination to be announced.

February 9 -- FREDERICK COUNTY HOT SPOTS.   Half-day trip to search for waterfowl and other winter visitors.   Leader: Mike Welch (301-685-3561).

February 16-18 -- OCEAN CITY.   President's Day weekend on the beach.   Leader: Mike Welch (301-685-3561).

March 7 -- MEETING.   Mike Bowen, Linda Friedland, and Jim Nelson will teach us about "Identifying and Learning about the Warblers of Maryland."

March 8 -- "FIRST-FRIDAY" MORNING TRIP.   Meet at 8:00 AM at Culler Lake in Baker Park to join this half-day trip.   Leader and destination to be announced.

March 9 -- LILYPONS.   Morning trip.   Looking for overwintering birds.   Leader: Marcia Balestri (301-473-5098).

March 23 -- SWAN HARBOR.   3/4 day.   We'll visit this fine park in Harford County looking for waterfowl, sparrows and wintering grassland species. Leader: Kathy Calvert (301-810-5677).

April 4 -- MEETING.   Gail Mackiernan will take us to the distant, beautiful, and bird-rich land of "Bhutan."

April 5 -- "FIRST-FRIDAY" MORNING TRIP.   Meet at 8:00 AM at Culler Lake in Baker Park to join this half-day trip.   Leader and destination to be announced.

April 13 -- HUGHES HOLLOW.   Half day. This is one of Montgomery County's premier spots and we'll go in search of late wintering ducks, early spring migrants, and woodland and wetland species.   (possible joint trip with Montgomery county). Leader: Bob Schaefer (301-831-5660).

April 20 -- BIG DAY IN CATOCTIN CREEK PARK.   We'll spend Earth Day in Catoctin Creek Park seeing and recording as many species as possible in one day.   Join us for all or part of the day.   Leader: Mike Welch (301-685-3561).

April 27 -- NATIVE PLANT SALE of the Audubon Society of Central Maryland, held at the Audrey Carroll Audubon Sanctuary.   Please support this sale at one of our favorite and most productive birding hot spots.   More information can be found at www.centralmdaudubon.org.   Marica Balestri ((301-473-5098) will lead a pre-sale bird walk starting at 7 am.

May 2 -- MEETING.   The meeting will be at the Frederick High School Heritage Room. Gary Van Velsir on "Travel and Birding in China."

May 3 -- "FIRST-FRIDAY" MORNING TRIP.   Meet at 8:00 AM at Culler Lake in Baker Park to join this half-day trip.   Leader and destination to be announced.

May 4 -- C & O CANAL WALK.   Half day. We will go from Point of Rocks (with its newly spacious parking lot) to Lander for migrating warblers.   Be sure to do your neck exercises beforehand.   Leader: Pat Caro.

May 5 -- FRED ARCHIBALD MAY COUNT.   Meet at the Sanctuary at 6:00 AM.   Coordinator: Bob Schaefer (301-831-5660, Pres@FrederickBirdClub.org).

May 11 -- FREDERICK COUNTY MAY COUNT #49.   It's peak migration so this is the most fun you can have working on a census.   Lots of eyes and ears are needed! Compiler: Mike Welch (301-685-3561).

May 12 -- AUDREY CARROLL MAY COUNT.   Meet at the Sanctuary at 6:00 AM.   Coordinator: David Smith (410-549-7082).

May 24-26 -- MOS CONFERENCE IN HARFORD COUNTY.   Watch your Maryland Yellowthroat for details.

May 30 -- CHAPTER PLANNING MEETING.   Originally scheduled for June 13, this meeting will take place at Tom Humphrey's home: you are invited for supper at 6 p.m., and the business of planning will start at 7 p.m. Your ideas are needed! Please call Tom (301-696-8540) or Bob (301-831-5660) to let us know you are coming.

June 1 -- MONOCACY BATTLEFIELD BIRDING AND HISTORY.   NEW TRIP. Leaders: Bob Schaefer (301-831-5660) and Nick Lund of National Parks Conservation Association. The Battlefield preserves this historic site, which contains some excellent riverside bird habitat.

June 6 -- ANNUAL PICNIC.   Our favorite spot for this event is Pinecliff Park where there is a lovely pavilion just in case we have a bit of rain.   Bring binoculars, a dish to share, plate, utensils and drink.   We'll meet at 6:00 PM for birding and chow.

June 8 -- WESTERN MARYLAND.   Formerly listed as June 9.   Full day.   This always-popular trip will take us to Allegany and Garrett Counties in search of Henslow's Sparrow, Golden-winged Warbler, Least and Alder Flycatchers, and much more.   
Trip may be extended to a second day!   Leader: Kathy Calvert (301-810-5677).

June 15 -- PATUXENT RIVER STATE PARK.   CANCELLED. Necessitated by trip leader Bob's being unexpectedly called to go birding in Peru in mid-June. His apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
